Job Summary Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Ophthalmic Assistant, where your enthusiasm and dedication will directly enhance patient care and vision health. In this vital role, you will support ophthalmologists and Optometrists by performing clinical and administrative tasks that ensure smooth clinic operations. Your proactive approach will help deliver exceptional patient experiences, from initial intake to follow-up care, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and professionalism. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to develop specialized skills in ophthalmology and Optometry and medical office procedures within a fast-paced, patient-centered environment. Duties Assist patients during their visits by recording medical histories, and preparing them for examinations. Conduct patient intake processes efficiently, ensuring accurate collection of personal and insurance information while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Support ophthalmologists and Optometrists with clinical tasks such as performing visual acuity tests, intraocular pressure measurements, and basic eye assessments using optical equipment. Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment. Manage electronic medical records (EMR) systems for documenting patient encounters, updating medical histories, and coding procedures accurately. Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and pre/post-operative care instructions with clarity and compassion. Support front desk operations including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and managing patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency. Assist with inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and optical equipment to ensure readiness for daily procedures. Collaborate with the team on billing and coding processes related to ophthalmology services, ensuring compliance with medical billing standards. Provide exceptional customer service in retail sales of optical products when applicable, utilizing retail math skills to process transactions accurately. Qualifications Prior experience in a medical office setting or clinic environment is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to the eye and visual system. Familiarity with medical terminology specific to ophthalmology and general healthcare practices. Experience working with EMR systems or other electronic health record platforms. Ability to perform intake procedures and documenting patient information accurately. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Experience with optical devices and ophthalmic testing equipment is a plus. Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration. Understanding of medical coding and billing processes related to ophthalmic services is advantageous. Pay:
$19.00 - $23.00 per hour
