Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated Ophthalmic Scribe and Technician for full-time employment in a busy Ophthalmology practice in Kernersville, NC. Our practice specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract, and glaucoma and the ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care. Certification is not required but preferred. Experience as a scribe and technician in ophthalmology required. Responsibilities Accompany physicians during patient exams and accurately document chief complaint, history of present illness (HPI), review of systems, examination findings, diagnostic interpretations, assessments and treatment plans as well as entering ophthalmic testing results into EMR Perform preliminary eye examinations and tests: ocular motility assessment, pupil testing, color vision, refraction, lensometry, tonometry, keratometry, topography, A-scan biometry, optical biometry (IOLMaster), B-scan ultrasound, optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the anterior and posterior segment, and fluorescein angiography. Prepare patient charts prior to clinic visits Document procedures, injections, laser treatments, and surgeries as directed by the physician Coordinate with technicians, front desk staff, surgery schedulers, and billing personnel as needed Assist with obtaining records, referrals, or prior testing when necessary Support providers in maintaining efficient clinic flow and patient satisfaction Assess and prioritize incoming patient calls by collecting relevant ophthalmic history and symptoms, providing appropriate guidance, and directing urgent cases to the ophthalmologist. Maintain and update medical records accurately, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations. Educate patients on procedures and treatments. Collaborate with ophthalmologists to prepare for examinations and assist during procedures. Utilize knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and billing processes as needed.
