We are looking for a friendly, dependable, and motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical team and assist our physicians in providing high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with patients, eager to learn, and able to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. Previous ophthalmology or ophthalmic technician experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual who demonstrates a strong work ethic, professionalism, and desire to learn.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Welcome and room patients while providing compassionate and professional patient care. Obtain and document accurate patient medical and ocular histories. Perform preliminary eye examinations and clinical testing as directed by the physician. Measure visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pupil responses, and other basic ophthalmic measurements. Perform diagnostic testing such as OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, and other ophthalmic imaging as applicable. Administer eye drops, including dilating and anesthetic drops, as directed and within applicable scope of practice. Prepare patients for physician examinations and assist physicians with clinical procedures as needed. Accurately document examination findings and testing results in the electronic health record (EHR). Review and update patient medications, allergies, and medical history. Assist with patient education and provide clear instructions regarding testing, medications, and follow-up care. Maintain and prepare examination rooms, equipment, and supplies. Clean, disinfect, and maintain ophthalmic equipment according to practice protocols. Assist with patient flow to ensure efficient clinic operations. Communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and patients. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and office policies. Cross-train in additional clinical and administrative duties to support the practice. Participate in ongoing training and development of ophthalmic clinical skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous ophthalmic, medical assistant, healthcare, or patient-care experience preferred. Ophthalmic technician experience or JCAHPO certification (COA/COT) is a plus, but not required. We are willing to train the right individual who is motivated, dependable, and eager to learn. Strong interest in ophthalmology and providing excellent patient care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document clinical information. Comfortable using computers and learning electronic medical record systems and ophthalmic diagnostic equipment. Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced clinical environment. Professional, dependable, and compassionate demeanor. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Willingness to learn new clinical skills and procedures.
