Position Overview This is a cross-trained role where no two days look exactly the same. You'll work alongside the doctor performing pre-testing and chairside assistance, then transition to helping patients find eyewear they love. We believe every team member should understand the full patient care lifecycle — from pre-testing and the exam room to the dispensary and billing desk. Even if your background is stronger in one area, you must be willing to learn and become proficient across all aspects of the practice. Rotating between roles is not optional — it's a core part of how our team operates. Responsibilities Greet patients and set the tone for a positive visit. Perform diagnostic and preliminary testing. Assist the doctor during patient examinations. Provide contact lens training and follow-up care. Guide patients through eyewear selection, fitting, and adjustments with an eye for both function and style. Manage optical department operations including order placement, tracking, inventory, and frame merchandising. Verify and process vision insurance benefits through carriers such as VSP, EyeMed, and others. Quote and bill eyewear and contact lens orders accurately. Discuss insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs with patients prior to exams and purchases. Troubleshoot order issues and visual acuity concerns. Maintain accurate patient records in full compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards. Handle appointment scheduling, patient communications, and vendor coordination. Rotate between clinical, optical, and administrative duties as needed throughout the day or week. Contribute to team meetings and ongoing practice improvement. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent (Required) Minimum 3 years of experience in the optometric field (Required) Experience verifying and billing vision insurance plans such as VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, Davis Vision, etc. (Required) Experience quoting and billing medical insurance (Preferred) Language Spanish (Preferred) License / Certification ABO Certification or Optometric Technician Certification (Preferred) Benefits Health and dental insurance.
