Job Description

LOCATION
5211 FM 2920, STE 102 Spring, TX 77388 Some travel required as needed with doctor to nearby Kingwood and Tomball locations.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will have a dual role; will include Surgical Coordinator as well as ophthalmic assistant duties. Contributes to the organization by assisting the physician and administration in keeping the medical practice running smoothly and efficiently. Must be well organized and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other staff members. This position requires the ability to demonstrate composure and function efficiently while performing multiple tasks. Good communication, interpersonal and computer skills are essential with flexibility in work assignments. Works closely with the ophthalmologist to perform basic, advanced, and complex preliminary tests and measurements of the eyes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Triage incoming calls, review all phone message and return calls in a timely manner. Scheduling surgeries and preparing all pertinent paperwork for surgeries by following all established surgery processes. Handling patients' related issues including but not limited to, scheduling, appointments, insurance verification and authorizations. Timely follow up on recommendations for patients' seen by on-call physician. Managing physician appointment calendar, emails and other correspondence. Reviews patient chart for accuracy of information. Perform tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physician's preference. Assists with diagnostic testing. Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician. May act as scribe to assist physicians with entering exam information into electronic record. Order diagnostic tests electronically and submit prescription refills approved by physician.
Qualifications/ Skills Requirements Preferred:
Training in business office activities (required); two years medical office experience (preferred) with knowledge of managed-care issues: Medicare, Medicaid, and 3rd-party payers; basic knowledge of medical terminology (specifically ophthalmologic).
Preferred:
Basic knowledge of accounting procedures with strong knowledge/skills in computers. Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to push, pull, bend, twist, and reach. Use care and proper judgment when lifting or carrying items ensuring to utilize proper posture and body mechanics. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
