Job Description

Position Summary Aurality Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Optical Assembly Technician to assemble, clean, align, inspect, and test miniature optical and optomechanical systems. Aurality manufactures a novel, optical 3D scanner for the audiology market. This hands-on position involves working under a microscope with small lenses (smaller than 2mm), filters, sensors, mounts, adhesives, and precision mechanical components. Direct optical-assembly experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong microscope-based precision assembly, inspection, electronics, medical-device, laboratory, or similar experience are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Clean miniature lenses (smaller than 2mm), filters, optical surfaces, housings, and precision mounts using approved solvents, lint-free wipes, swabs, and contamination-control procedures. Inspect cleaned optics under magnification for particles, residue, stains, scratches, chips, coating damage, and other defects. Assemble miniature optical and optomechanical systems using microscopes, precision hand tools, fixtures, and alignment equipment. Handle and install delicate components without damaging optical surfaces or coatings. Perform active or passive optical alignment to meet defined performance requirements. Dispense and cure controlled amounts of epoxies, UV-curable adhesives, and other bonding materials. Perform optical, dimensional, visual, and functional inspections. Follow engineering drawings, bills of materials, work instructions, and acceptance criteria. Record assembly steps, measurements, material traceability, defects, and rework activities. Follow contamination-control, ESD, laser-safety, and chemical-handling procedures. Work with engineering, quality, and production personnel to resolve assembly and process issues. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Experience performing detailed hands-on work involving small or delicate components. Strong fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, patience, and attention to detail. Ability to work under a microscope or magnifying system for extended periods. Ability to follow detailed written procedures consistently. Ability to accurately document work, measurements, and inspection results. Ability to work full-time on-site in Herndon, Virginia. Preferred Qualifications Experience in optical, optomechanical, electronics, medical-device, semiconductor, fiber-optic, precision-instrument, dental-laboratory, or cleanroom manufacturing. Experience cleaning coated optics, lenses, filters, sensors, or precision mechanical mounts. Experience with optical alignment, focus adjustment, image-quality inspection, or optical testing. Experience dispensing precision adhesives or working with UV-curable materials. Familiarity with microscopes, precision tweezers, calipers, measurement fixtures, or optical test equipment. Familiarity with cleanroom practices, ESD controls, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation. Training and Employment Conditions On-the-job training will be provided for company-specific optical cleaning, assembly, alignment, inspection, safety, and documentation procedures. The position includes an initial 90-day introductory period , during which performance, quality, attendance, procedure compliance, and overall suitability for the role will be evaluated.

Pay:
$25.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
