Job Description

Thunder Bay Community Health Service (TBCHS) is seeking a caring, detail-oriented Optician Apprentice to join our growing team. In this role, you'll work alongside our Optometrist to provide exceptional patient care—from scheduling appointments and helping patients select the perfect frames to fitting, adjusting, and dispensing eyewear. What You'll Do As an Optician, you will: Deliver outstanding customer service and create a welcoming experience for every patient. Schedule appointments and assist patients with questions regarding vision care. Verify medical and vision insurance eligibility and maintain accurate patient records. Help patients select frames and lenses that best fit their prescription, lifestyle, and insurance coverage. Take precise optical measurements to ensure accurate, comfortable eyewear. Order glasses and contact lenses, monitor orders, and ensure timely delivery. Inspect, adjust, fit, and dispense eyewear while educating patients on proper wear and care. Perform eyeglass adjustments and minor repairs. Assist with inventory management, ordering optical supplies, and maintaining frame displays. Schedule referrals and support the Optometrist with daily clinic operations. Resolve patient concerns with professionalism and compassion while providing an exceptional customer experience. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Has excellent customer service and communication skills. Enjoys helping patients find eyewear that fits their needs and lifestyle. Is organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Works independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team. Takes initiative, enjoys learning, and is committed to delivering high-quality patient care. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire. Required to complete the Optician Apprentice Program. Ability to travel between TBCHS clinic locations as needed.
