Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in optical science, patient care, and retail operations, with a commitment to delivering exceptional service and ensuring optimal visual health for patients. As an Optician, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with eyewear selection, fittings, and adjustments while adhering to medical and health regulation policies. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that values professionalism, technical expertise, and compassionate patient interaction. Responsibilities Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by understanding their prescription needs, lifestyle, and preferences. Dispense spectacle lenses accurately, ensuring proper fitting, adjustment of eyewear frames, and compliance with safety standards. Conduct basic eye assessments such as measuring vital signs relevant to vision health and verifying prescriptions using optical testing equipment. Maintain detailed medical records and ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens cutting, edging, and mounting while maintaining quality standards. Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries regarding eyewear options, insurance coverage, and billing procedures using POS (Point of Sale) systems or EMR/EHR (Electronic Medical Records/Electronic Health Records) systems. Follow all health regulation policies and clinical confidentiality protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Support retail sales efforts through effective communication of product features, benefits, and promotions related to optical products. Collaborate with ophthalmology or optometry professionals to support clinical workflows, including medical coding and documentation for insurance claims. Assist in inventory management of optical supplies, frames, lenses, and laboratory materials to ensure stock accuracy and availability. Qualifications Proven experience as an Optician or in a retail optometry setting with knowledge of optics, spectacle lens dispensing, and eyewear fittings. Familiarity with ophthalmology practices, medical terminology related to vision care, and anatomy knowledge of the eye. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies governing healthcare environments. Experience operating laboratory equipment for eyewear fabrication as well as POS systems and EMR/EHR software such as Epic or similar platforms. Basic math skills necessary for measurements, billing calculations, and inventory management. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics and senior care clients. Knowledge of medical billing procedures, medical coding standards related to vision care, and clinic experience is highly desirable. Ability to work accurately under pressure while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced retail or clinical setting. Pay:
$18.00 - $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
