Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optometric/Ophthalmic Billing Specialist, where your expertise will drive accurate and efficient billing processes for eye care services. In this vital role, you will manage the entire billing cycle, ensuring claims are submitted correctly and promptly, and that patient accounts are maintained with precision. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help streamline operations, improve revenue flow, and enhance patient satisfaction. Duties Checking patients out at completion of exam. Scheduling referrals. Prepare and submit medical claims for optometric and ophthalmic services using billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems Review and code procedures using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding standards to ensure accuracy Verify insurance coverage, process payments, and follow up on outstanding medical collections with health insurance providers and patients Maintain detailed medical records, ensuring all billing information aligns with medical terminology and coding guidelines Resolve billing discrepancies by coordinating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate timely payments Stay updated on healthcare claims management policies, insurance regulations, and coding changes to ensure compliance Generate reports on billing activities, accounts receivable status, and claim rejections for management review Skills Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures specific to optometry and ophthalmology practices Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and DRG classifications Experience with billing software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), EHR (Electronic Health Records), and healthcare claims management systems Excellent understanding of health insurance policies, medical terminology, and medical records management Ability to handle medical collections efficiently while maintaining a high level of customer service Familiarity with medical office operations, including medical coding standards and documentation requirements Work week is Monday through Thursday full day and Friday mornings.
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 34.0 - 36.0 per week
