As a Licensed Optician, you will be responsible for assisting patients with eyewear selection, performing fittings, and ensuring compliance with health regulations and confidentiality policies. Duties Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by understanding their prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and aesthetic preferences. Dispense spectacle lenses accurately, ensuring proper fitting and adjustment of eyewear frames. Conduct optical laboratory tasks such as lens edging, mounting, and quality control to produce precise eyewear products. Perform comprehensive eye measurements including pupillary distance, vertex distance, and vital signs relevant to vision correction. Maintain detailed medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems while adhering to HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries, explaining product features, and guiding purchasing decisions. Operate POS systems and cash registers efficiently during retail transactions while managing retail sales processes. Ensure compliance with state healthcare regulations and health policy standards related to optical practice and patient safety. Support clinic operations by managing inventory levels of frames, lenses, and supplies in accordance with laboratory experience and retail management practices. Maintain a clean and aseptic environment during procedures such as eyewear fittings or laboratory work following infection control protocols. Skills Extensive knowledge of ophthalmology principles, optics, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to vision care. Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems like Epic for accurate documentation of patient information. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and medical billing practices. Experience with optical laboratory equipment including lens edging machines and frame adjustment tools. Skilled in retail sales techniques with the ability to promote eyewear products effectively while meeting sales targets. Ability to perform detailed eyewear fittings, adjustments, and repairs with precision. Familiarity with pediatric eye care needs and senior care considerations within retail optometry settings. Competence in basic math for calculating lens prescriptions, pricing, and insurance coding where applicable. Knowledge of health regulation policies governing clinics and optical practices at the state level. Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to communicate complex medical information clearly and empathetically.
