Optician Job Overview We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and customer-focused Optician to join a growing private optometry practice. This position is ideal for an experienced optical professional who enjoys working directly with patients and takes pride in providing an exceptional eyewear experience from frame selection through final dispensing. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of frames and ophthalmic lenses, is confident with frame styling and eyewear sales, understands optical measurements and dispensing, and is passionate about excellent patient care. Key Responsibilities Provide exceptional customer service and create a welcoming experience for every patient Assist patients with selecting frames based on prescription, lifestyle, facial features, personal style, and budget Provide professional frame styling and eyewear recommendations Educate patients about ophthalmic lenses, lens materials, coatings, and available options Take accurate optical measurements, including PD, segment height, and other necessary measurements Dispense and fit eyeglasses accurately Perform frame adjustments and troubleshoot fit and comfort issues Review eyewear orders carefully for accuracy before submission Guide patients through the optical sales process from frame selection through final dispensing Explain pricing, lens options, warranties, and available eyewear packages Process optical transactions, payments, insurance benefits, and patient balances accurately Assist with vision insurance benefit interpretation and maximizing available patient benefits Assist with contact lens and other vision correction product sales when appropriate Maintain accurate patient and optical records within the practice's EHR/POS systems Communicate effectively with the optometrist and clinical team regarding patient eyewear needs Coordinate with optical laboratories to ensure accurate and timely eyewear production Inspect finished eyewear for prescription accuracy, workmanship, quality, and proper fit Handle optical repairs, adjustments, remakes, and warranty issues professionally and efficiently Maintain organized frame and optical inventory Assist with receiving, displaying, and merchandising new eyewear Help maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing optical environment Contribute to optical sales goals and overall practice growth Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude Follow HIPAA, patient privacy, and applicable workplace regulations Participate in practice events and other activities as needed What We're Looking For At least 1 year of optical experience required Previous experience as an optician, optical sales associate, optical dispenser, or similar optical role Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, frames, measurements, and dispensing Strong customer service and communication skills Comfortable helping patients make eyewear purchasing decisions Ability to confidently explain lens and frame options Strong attention to detail and accuracy Professional, dependable, and personable Ability to work effectively in a team environment Comfortable working in a busy private optometry practice Experience with optical POS and/or EHR systems preferred Knowledge of vision insurance and optical benefits preferred Experience working with optical laboratories preferred ABO certification is a plus but not required Optician licensure is not required Spanish-speaking is preferred
