This role combines clinical ophthalmic support with optical expertise, providing patients with exceptional care from pre-testing through eyewear selection and dispensing. Responsibilities Prepare patients for eye examinations and obtain accurate medical and ocular histories. Perform and document preliminary testing, including visual acuity, autorefraction, keratometry, lensometry, tonometry, visual fields, OCT, and retinal imaging as applicable. Assist doctors with examinations and clinical procedures within the appropriate scope of practice. Recognize and communicate abnormal findings or patient concerns to the provider. Maintain accurate EMR/EHR documentation and follow HIPAA, infection-control, and safety protocols. Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescription, lifestyle, visual needs, and personal style. Take accurate optical measurements and perform eyewear fittings, adjustments, repairs, and dispensing. Verify prescriptions and perform lens quality-control checks. Assist with optical laboratory work and coordinate with outside laboratories when needed. Educate patients on lenses, coatings, eyewear care, and visual solutions. Manage optical inventory, orders, and POS transactions. Provide warm, professional, and personalized customer service throughout the patient experience. Collaborate with doctors and team members to ensure efficient clinical and optical operations. Qualifications Current state Licensed Optician license. Ophthalmic technician experience or training strongly preferred. Experience in an optometry, ophthalmology, or optical practice. Knowledge of optics, ophthalmic terminology, anatomy, and basic clinical procedures. Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment and optical dispensing. Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and customer-service skills. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, HIPAA, and infection-control procedures. Ability to work efficiently in a collaborative, patient-centered environment.
