Job Description

Virginia Pediatric Eye Center is a busy pediatric eye care private practice with office locations and optical shops in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. We are looking for an optical shop assistant with a minimum of 1 year experience to work with our pediatric patients. Enthusiasm for working with children and families is needed. Experience with lab equipment and lens finishing is a plus because we have an on-site finishing lab. We need a positive, friendly team player with a vision for growth, great organizational skills, and strong attention to detail who will be responsive to our families and provide excellent customer service. When working with patients, you will recommend specific eyewear to suit a patient's age, style, and face; take measurements; fit and adjust glasses; repair damaged frames; and teach patients to properly wear and care for their glasses. You should be able to recommend specialized eyewear for sports and occupational use along with appropriate tints and anti-reflective coatings. You will also need good computer skills, including the ability to prepare and place lens and frame orders and perform billing and insurance eligibility / authorizations. Our optical shops have open hours Monday-Friday 8am - 5:30pm. Your full-time work schedule will total 40 hours per week, and your work hours will be scheduled during the weekday 8:00-5:30 time window based on our practice's needs. Assigned work location(s) will include either or both of our Virginia Beach and Chesapeake offices. Specific compensation will depend on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, and business needs. Benefits include paid vacation, paid sick leave, 401K, and health/dental insurance.
