Duties Conduct thorough ophthalmic patient examinations, including visual acuity testing, tonometry, and assessment of ocular health using ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment. Diagnose eye conditions related to diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other ocular disorders utilizing ophthalmic diagnosis techniques. Perform contact lens fittings and adjustments, ensuring optimal comfort and vision correction for patients. Manage disease states through medical treatment plans, prescribing medications or therapies as appropriate while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Operate medical equipment safely and accurately, including slit lamps, tonometers, and other ophthalmic diagnostic tools. Maintain detailed and accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems; document vital signs, medical history, diagnosis notes, and treatment plans. Provide exceptional patient care by communicating clearly about diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye health strategies; ensure patient understanding through effective client communication. Collaborate with team members on ophthalmic consultations and coordinate referrals when specialized care is needed. Uphold aseptic techniques during examinations to maintain a sterile environment and prevent infections. Assist in sales of optical products when appropriate, providing product recommendations based on patient needs while maintaining excellent customer service standards. Requirements Valid licensure as a licensed Optometrist with certification in ophthalmology or optometry practice standards. Proven experience in optical experience, ophthalmology procedures, or related healthcare settings. Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy of the eye, medical terminology, and disease management protocols. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and medical records management. Skilled in the operation of ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers and slit lamps. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Ability to perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations including contact lens fitting and disease diagnosis. Excellent client communication skills paired with a compassionate approach to patient care. Knowledge of medical coding related to optometry services is a plus but not required.
