Independent Contractor Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Pacific (excluding Federal holidays). Full-day, partial-day, or intermittent sessions available.

Pay:

$149.80 per clocked hour (1099 independent contractor). Approximately $5,992 per 40-hour week. Contractor is responsible for self-employment tax, malpractice, and business expenses.

About the Role Four Winds Staffing is hiring credentialed clinicians and clinical support personnel to deliver ambulatory care services at Fort Yuma Health Care Center (FYHCC), an Indian Health Service (IHS) facility in Winterhaven, California serving a primarily Native American patient population. Provide comprehensive ambulatory primary eye care at FYHCC. You will perform comprehensive eye examinations, refractions, and follow-up evaluations; diagnose and manage refractive error and ocular disease; prescribe corrective lenses and medications; and coordinate specialty referrals when clinically indicated. About the Facility Fort Yuma Health Care Center is a multi-specialty ambulatory care facility offering Behavioral Health, Dental, Laboratory, Nutrition, Optometry, Pharmacy, Prescription Refill Line, Physical Therapy, Primary Care, and Public Health Nursing services. FYHCC serves the Cocopah and Quechan tribes. The Quechan Reservation spans 45,814 desert acres along the Colorado River in California's Imperial County, just outside Yuma. The Cocopah Reservation is comprised of 1,772 acres near Somerton, Arizona. Cocopah and Quechan tribal members live a contemporary lifestyle while many still practice traditional ways. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive eye examinations, vision assessments, refractions, and follow-up evaluations within granted privileges. Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage refractive error, ocular disease, and related eye conditions; prescribe medications and other therapies as authorized. Prescribe corrective lenses and vision-related treatment plans when clinically indicated. Perform or interpret diagnostic testing and perform minor ocular procedures within scope and granted privileges. Document encounters, prescriptions, procedures, diagnostic results, referrals, and follow-up instructions accurately in the Government EHR. Coordinate referrals or transfers to ophthalmology, emergency care, or specialty care when needed. Comply with infection prevention, instrument sanitation/reprocessing, and emergency response requirements. Required Qualifications Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from an accredited institution. Active, unrestricted Optometry license in any U.S. State, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory. Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience in primary eye care, ambulatory optometry, or a closely related practice setting. Current BLS from AHA or American Red Cross approved provider (if required by local privileging). DEA registration and therapeutic pharmaceutical agent (TPA) authority required to prescribe under granted privileges. Ability to obtain and maintain FYHCC security access, credentialing, and clinical privileges. Demonstrated ability to document care in an EHR. Preferred Qualifications Prior IHS, tribal, FQHC, VA, or DoD optometry experience. Ocular disease management or glaucoma certification.
