The Paramedic provides emergency medical response, advanced pre-hospital healthcare services, and clinical support within a federally contracted ICE Short-Term Residential Facility. Working under the direction of the Health Services Administrator, Registered Nurse, physician, or other licensed healthcare provider, the Paramedic is responsible for responding to medical emergencies, conducting comprehensive patient assessments, providing Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS/ALS), assisting with clinical operations, and supporting the overall health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors. This role requires sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency and high-pressure situations while maintaining compliance with facility policies, medical protocols, and applicable healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Emergency Response and Advanced Patient Care Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) services within the scope of Paramedic certification and applicable protocols. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, obtain and monitor vital signs, identify acute medical conditions, document findings, and communicate patient conditions to healthcare providers. Perform triage and evaluation of residents presenting with illness, injury, or other medical concerns. Provide emergency care, treatment, and stabilization until additional medical personnel or outside emergency services arrive or transfer of care is completed. Perform approved advanced emergency medical procedures within the Paramedic's authorized scope of practice and in accordance with established medical protocols and standing orders. Administer authorized medications and treatments within the Paramedic's scope of practice and applicable clinical protocols. Utilize and maintain emergency medical equipment, including cardiac monitoring and other life-support equipment for which the Paramedic is trained and authorized. Coordinate emergency transportation and facilitate communication with local EMS agencies, receiving healthcare facilities, and other medical providers as needed. Assist residents with healthcare needs and support continuity-of-care efforts. Clinical Support Assist, nurses, and other healthcare personnel with routine and emergency clinical operations and patient care activities. Prepare examination and treatment areas and ensure clinical and emergency medical supplies are adequately stocked. Assist with health screenings, intake assessments, ongoing patient monitoring, and other clinical activities as directed. Recognize changes or deterioration in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate healthcare provider. Support infection prevention and control measures throughout the facility.

Inspect and maintain emergency response equipment, medications, and medical supplies in a state of readiness. Participate in emergency preparedness activities and support the facility's response to medical emergencies and other critical incidents. Documentation and Compliance Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of assessments, treatments, medications, interventions, incidents, and resident interactions. Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies. Adhere to all approved healthcare protocols, standing orders, clinical procedures, and applicable scope-of-practice requirements .Ensure appropriate documentation and transfer-of-care communication when residents are transported to outside healthcare facilities. Report medical incidents, safety concerns, and other required information in accordance with facility procedures. Collaboration and Professional Conduct Work collaboratively with healthcare staff, facility leadership, security personnel, local EMS agencies, and external healthcare providers. Communicate effectively during emergency situations to support coordinated and timely patient care. Participate in emergency preparedness drills, training exercises, competency assessments, and staff development activities. Maintain professional conduct and effective communication when interacting with residents, staff, contractors, visitors, and external healthcare personnel. Maintain professional boundaries and provide respectful, compassionate, and appropriate care to residents from diverse backgrounds.

Required Qualifications & Core Competencies:

High school diploma or equivalent. Current Paramedic certification or licensure in the state of practice, as applicable. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. Valid driver's license, if required by facility operations. Ability to obtain and maintain all required facility clearances, background investigations, credentialing, and security requirements. Ability to perform emergency patient assessments and provide care within the authorized Paramedic scope of practice. Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies and changes in patient condition. Ability to communicate effectively Basic computer proficiency and ability to maintain electronic medical and administrative records. One (1) year or more of experience working as a Paramedic.

Desired Skills:

Experience working in correctional, detention, residential, emergency medical services, emergency department, urgent care, or community healthcare settings. Experience providing emergency medical care in a high-volume or structured environment. Experience working with diverse populations. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Additional emergency response, trauma, or critical-care certifications or training. Bilingual in Spanish or another commonly encountered language.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and move throughout the facility for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to assist with patient movement, emergency response activities, and transportation of medical equipment. Ability to perform duties requiring physical stamina, mobility, and rapid response during emergency situations. Ability to safely operate and maneuver emergency medical equipment Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to interact with residents, staff, visitors, vendors, and healthcare personnel and to complete required documentation accurately. The Paramedic works within a federally contracted ICE Short-Term Residential Facility providing emergency medical and healthcare services in a secure residential setting. The position may involve exposure to communicable diseases, medical emergencies, bodily fluids, and emotionally challenging or high-stress situations. Employees are expected to maintain professionalism, follow all applicable safety, security, and infection-control procedures, and support the facility's commitment to providing safe, humane, and compliant resident care.
