Job Requirements General Summary Under frequent supervision, transports patients, supplies and equipment to and from all departments within the medical center. Expedites Emergency Department room turnover and patient placement. Patients served include infant to adult geriatric.

Night Shift:

8pm-6:30am, 4 nights with Weekend Rotation. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following description of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performance by individuals assigned to this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position. Patient Transports Identifies patient verbally and/or by wristband. Signs patient in/out on floor log sheet and lets staff know patient is leaving or returning to unit. Transports patient to correct department. Provides assistance to the Transport RN as needed. Knows how to handle oneself in an emergency situation. Transports patients to morgue with respect. Uses safety measures/standards when transporting a patient with oxygen. Transport Equipment Ensures equipment is returned to proper storage area. Identifies, removes from service, tags, and reports any malfunctions with equipment. Supply Delivery and Pick-up Specimens are picked up in the proper container, following the standards and policies of the hospitable. Runs are completed in the time frame allotted. Blood Bank products are delivered to the appropriate person, obtaining initials upon delivery. Central Sterile supplies are delivered and returned to the correct unit. Dirty supplies are returned to central using infection control standards. All other non-patient supplies and paperwork delivered in the appropriate manor. Work Experience Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read and write English. Current CPR certification required or obtained prior to providing direct patient care. Working Conditions Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment. Potential for verbal abuse by patients. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting. Physical Requirements Requires walking 80% of the time with frequent stooping and bending. Requires pushing, pulling and maneuvering stretchers and wheelchairs weighing in excess of 100 lbs. 80 % of the time in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing in excess of 30 lbs. Requires ability to communicate verbally with patients, medical center staff, physicians and other customers. Requires visual acuity for reading patient logs, identification bracelets, etc. Ability to hear spectra link phone to receive transport request.
