Group Fitness Coach The Yard Gym — Old Town Scottsdale The Yard Gym is a class-based strength and conditioning facility coming to Old Town Scottsdale , and we're building a high-level coaching team to help bring the studio to life. We're looking for experienced, energetic coaches who know how to command a room, coach movement with confidence, and create an exceptional member experience every time someone walks through our doors. This isn't a role where you simply demo the workout and start the clock. Our coaches are expected to coach, connect, lead, and own the room. What We're Looking For Coaching Excellence Strong proficiency coaching barbell-based compound movements, including squats, deadlifts, bench press, presses, rows, and other strength-training variations Ability to effectively coach and cue conditioning and functional movements across a variety of equipment Ability to scale and modify movements for a wide range of fitness levels while maintaining the intended training stimulus Strong understanding of movement patterns, strength and conditioning principles, progressive overload, and injury prevention Confident leading group training sessions of approximately 10-25+ members Ability to provide clear demonstrations, concise coaching cues, and individualized corrections while managing the entire room Strong presence, energy, and communication throughout every session Member Experience & Leadership Our coaches are a major part of what makes The Yard different. You should be:
Committed to delivering an exceptional experience from the moment members arrive through the end of the session Comfortable learning members' names, goals, limitations, and training history Confident giving feedback and modifying movements in real time Able to motivate members without sacrificing coaching quality or movement standards Punctual, dependable, prepared, and solution-oriented Willing to own the room—not just coach the workout Operational Expectations Being part of The Yard means contributing to the overall success of the studio, not just the 50-60 minutes you're coaching.
Coaches should be comfortable:
Checking members in and assisting with basic studio operations Using Mindbody or similar scheduling/POS platforms Managing class transitions and maintaining an organized training floor Resetting equipment and maintaining studio cleanliness before and after sessions Supporting member questions and helping create a welcoming environment Participating in occasional member outreach, studio events, community activations, and pop-ups Everyone contributes to the member experience and takes ownership of the space. We're looking for coaches who: Bring positive energy, professionalism, and personality to every shift Want to be part of building a strong fitness community in Old Town Scottsdale Are coachable and receptive to feedback Communicate well with fellow coaches, managers, and ownership Step up when the team needs support Take pride in representing The Yard both inside and outside the studio Are interested in growing with the brand and being part of the team long-term Preferred Qualifications 2-3+ years of group fitness, strength & conditioning, athletic performance, or functional training experience preferred Nationally recognized personal training or strength & conditioning certification (NASM, NSCA, ACE, ISSA, ACSM, or equivalent) Current CPR/AED certification Strong understanding of barbell and strength-training movements Previous experience coaching group strength and conditioning is strongly preferred Athletic, performance coaching, or competitive training background is a plus About The Yard Gym The Yard Gym combines strength training and conditioning in a dual-zone training environment designed to help members become stronger, fitter, and more capable. Our programming is intentional, progressive, and coach-led. Members aren't just coming in to sweat—they're training with purpose. As a coach, you'll be expected to understand the programming, communicate the intent behind the work, and help members progress over time.
