The City of Fountain Valley is looking for energetic, self-motivated, reliable individuals who possess a great attitude, have a desire to learn, can successfully multi-task, and have a PASSION for providing excellent customer service. The Recreation & Community Services Department is currently hiring Recreation Specialists and Leaders. These positions will be responsible for assisting in the coordination and supervision of a variety of recreation programs including adult and youth sports leagues, senior services, special events, facility rentals, park patrol, perform field operations at the Fountain Valley Sports Park, and other activities. The Recreation & Community Services Team is a collaborative, dynamic, and dedicated group that understands the work they do matters and takes pride in providing high-quality services to the community. Job Overview Assist in the coordination of recreation programs including adult and youth sports, senior services, special events, contract classes, and other recreational activities. Perform a variety of general administrative duties including, but not limited to: answer telephones, assist customers, collect fees, and maintain attendance records. Promote the safety of all program participants. Assist with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and sports equipment for all facility activities and special events. Oversee the regular operations of a community center, fields, and gymnasium facility. Respond to patrons' needs for assistance and information in person, via email and over the phone. Operate a variety of standard office equipment including computer.

EDUCATION
Present enrollment in high school. Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college level coursework in recreation, physical education, or a related field is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE
Some leadership experience and participation in recreation activities. Previous experience coordinating recreational activities, preferably in a municipal setting is highly desirable.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Drivers License is highly desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must be available to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Employment Status:
This position is classified as part-time, at-will. Please view City Resolution 9893 for more details.
Social Security:
City employees are not covered by Social Security; therefore, they are not required to contribute 6.2% of salary. Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS)
Plan :
The City has adopted a qualified social security alternative plan for all part-time, seasonal, as needed employees not covered by CalPERS to comply with Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act 1990 (OBRA 90). Employees will contribute 7.5% of their wages into the defined retirement plan on a pre-tax basis in lieu of Social Security. Most Recruits and Trainees will be enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement Services plan (PARS), unless previous CalPERS membership is established and funds are on deposit.
Sick Leave:
Pursuant to the Health Workplaces, Healthy Families Act, part-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour for every 30 hours worked for a maximum of 40 hours per fiscal year. Part-time employees may begin using accrued sick leave on the 90 th day of employment or later and may carry into the next fiscal year, up to 80 hours of accrued sick leave.
Medicare:
Employees contribute 1.45% to Medicare.
