Functional Fitness Coach (Contract)

Entry-Level JobVerifiedNo experience needed

Job Description

ABOUT TOWER FITNESS
Tower Fitness is a locally owned, family friendly, functional fitness/strength & conditioning gym in Norwalk, CT - recently named Best Gym, Best Specialty Fitness Studio, and Best Private Fitness Training in Norwalk 2026. We are intentionally small, authentically personal, and community-driven. Depending on the program, all of our classes are capped at 8-12 people so coaches can actually coach. Every workout is scalable for every level - from first-timers to seasoned athletes - and our programming serves a wide range of populations: general fitness members, postpartum moms, women in midlife, youth athletes, runners, seniors, and low-impact/elder populations. We don't run a big-box. We run a community, where we believe fitness should be accessible for all levels, all bodies & all ages. And we're looking for a coach who gets the difference.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a Functional Fitness / Strength & Conditioning Coach to lead group classes and contribute to the Tower Fitness community. You'll coach our CrossFunctional Fitness classes and may have the opportunity to coach specialty programs based on your experience and interests. Our coaches move through the room, give real-time feedback, build genuine relationships with members, and hold a high standard of safety and technique. This role is contract & hourly, and could coach as little as 1 class per week or as much as 5-8+ classes per week depending on schedule & availability. Our gym is currently growing so there is room for this role to grow as well.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead small group functional fitness classes (classes capped at 8-12) Deliver clear, effective instruction on movement mechanics, technique, & scaling options Provide individual coaching and modification cues as needed during class Create a welcoming, zero-intimidation environment for all levels Maintain safety standards and proper form across all movements Open & close gym as needed depending on schedule Contribute positively to gym culture and community
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Certifications:
CF-L1 or equivalent fitness certification required CPR/AED certification required (or willingness to become certified within 60 days of hire)
Strongly Preferred:
Olympic weightlifting experience Experience coaching diverse populations or multiple levels within a class (beginners, older adults, or low-impact) Any speciality knowledge is a plus (i.e. fitness for postpartum, pregnancy, power Iifting, older population, youth, corrective exercise specialist, kick boxing, etc, etc.) Has their own ideas to bring to the table - either new class ideas, or programming experience, etc.
The Right Person:
Genuinely loves coaching people, not just going through the motions Patient and encouraging with beginners without being condescending Holds a high standard for movement quality and safety Communicates clearly and confidently in front of a group Shows up on time, prepared, and professional Believes fitness should be accessible to every level & every body Is a team player who contributes to the culture, not just their shift Doesn't take themselves too seriously but takes helping people get strong seriously!
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
Part-time / hourly (class-based scheduling) Morning, midday, and evening slots available Monday through Saturday Opportunity to grow hours over time Free membership, open gym time, and unlimited classes included!
WHY TOWER FITNESS
Named Best Gym in Norwalk 2026 — in three categories! Small, intentional, community-forward environment (8-12-person class cap - means you actually get to coach - and our people are pretty great, too) Transferred to new owners in December of 2025 and have been steadily growing since. Diverse and growing programming across multiple populations Locally owned and family-friendly — you'll work directly with owners Paul & Katie Viscontini A gym built on the belief that fitness should be accessible to everyone. We live it and we mean it.
