Job Description

Position Summary The Yoga Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, engaging, and inclusive yoga classes for participants of varying ages and fitness levels. The instructor creates a welcoming environment that promotes physical wellness, flexibility, balance, strength, mindfulness, and overall well-being while supporting the mission and values of the YMCA. Essential Functions Plan and instruct yoga classes appropriate for the designated age group and skill level. Demonstrate and clearly explain yoga poses, breathing techniques, stretching, and relaxation methods. Provide modifications and alternative poses to accommodate different fitness levels, abilities, and physical limitations. Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming class environment. Monitor participants throughout each class and make appropriate adjustments to ensure safety and proper technique. Encourage participants and create a positive, supportive, and inclusive atmosphere. Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes. Communicate effectively with participants, members, volunteers, and YMCA staff. Maintain current knowledge of yoga practices, safety standards, and fitness trends. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including safety, emergency, and incident reporting requirements. Properly use and care for YMCA equipment and facilities. Promote YMCA programs, membership, and healthy living initiatives when appropriate. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous experience teaching yoga in a group fitness, wellness, or recreational setting preferred. Current yoga instructor certification from a recognized organization preferred. CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within the required timeframe. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and work effectively with individuals of varying ages and abilities. Ability to demonstrate yoga poses and physically participate in class instruction as required. Commitment to providing excellent member service and creating an inclusive environment. Must be dependable, professional, and able to work independently. Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stretch, kneel, and demonstrate yoga movements for extended periods. The instructor must be able to safely demonstrate exercises and assist participants when necessary.
Pay:
$15.00 - $25.00 per hour
