Job Description

Personal Trainer & Future Performance Manager (No Sales - Clients Provided) Skybound Fitness Malden, MA Job Details Full-time From $50,000 a year 13 hours ago Benefits 401(k) Paid time off Gym membership Professional development assistance Opportunities for advancement Flexible schedule Retirement plan Qualifications Certified Personal Trainer Anatomy knowledge Customer service Coaching CPR and AED training instruction Personalized workout plan creation Leadership Full Job Description Full-Time, Salaried (W-2). No Sales, No Cold Calls. Client Book Provided. Most gyms treat coaches like disposable floor-hustlers: no base pay, unpaid admin hours, and cold-calling leads between sets. We think that's broken, so we built the opposite. At Skybound, you get a reliable salary, a full client roster on day one, and paid hours to actually get better at your craft. We're Malden's most welcoming strength club: small groups, real relationships, zero attitude. A Small Team, A Real Opportunity Right now, Skybound's coaching staff is two people: Evan and Cat. That's it. We're not hiring a body to fill a shift. We're hiring the third pillar of this team, someone whose judgment and presence will shape how every member experiences this gym. What you build here in year one becomes the standard for everyone we hire after you. Who You Are Programming knowledge gets people in the door. How you make people feel is what keeps them coming back, and it's the first thing we screen for. You're a fit if: You remember names, life details, and that someone mentioned a bad knee three weeks ago, and you bring it up before they do You make a 6 AM squat session something people look forward to, not something they white-knuckle through You're patient with someone's first-ever deadlift and just as engaged with someone's hundredth People generally like being around you: coworkers, clients, the person next to you in line You can read a room. You know when to push, when to back off, when someone just needs to be heard If that doesn't sound like you, the certifications below won't matter. If it does, keep reading.
The Mission:
Own the Science Evan owns Facility Operations and Marketing. Cat owns Member Experience. We're hiring the third pillar: someone who nerds out on anatomy, biomechanics, and evidence-based programming, and grows into our Performance Manager , leading the training experience, educating the team, and raising the bar on our methods. If you read exercise physiology textbooks for fun, or you're working toward (or already hold) a CSCS, that's you. What You'll Actually Do (40 hrs/week) 20-25 hrs coaching the floor. Hands-on group and personal training. At least 50% of Saturday shifts (8 AM-1 PM) required to hold our weekend standard as we grow. 15-20 hrs paid operations. Designing 4-6 week training cycles, reviewing member movement scans, continuing ed, refining our programming systems. New member consults (no sales quota, no commission). Sitting down with someone is the only way to understand what they actually need. Requirements Current personal training certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA, or equivalent); CSCS a strong plus 1+ years coaching or training experience, ideally in small-group or 1:1 settings Comfortable owning a Saturday morning shift most weeks Strong written and verbal communication. You'll be writing programming notes and talking with members daily No sales background required or expected Compensation & Benefits Pay and benefits here aren't an afterthought. We built them to create predictability in your salary, so you can focus on being a world-class coach, and to support a career you're actually building, not just a paycheck. $50,000 W-2 base , with a defined path to $62,000 in year one and $75,000 by year 2-4, tied to client outcomes and tenure 401(k) with Traditional and Roth options Continuing Education Fund for CSCS, FRC, PRI, and other high-signal credentials Paid time off , and free access to the facility for your own training
