Job Description

Shift Lead, Medical Fitness. Mount Sinai. $72,000 salary, unlimited PTO, and the authority to actually run your floor. Redefine Fitness. Mount Sinai, NY. Full time, salaried, exempt.
Pay:
$72,000 a year, paid biweekly. Medical, dental and vision with employer contribution. 401(k) with employer match. Uncapped PTO, subject to approval and shift coverage.
Expected schedule:
approximately 50 to 55 hours a week. We are telling you that up front because we would rather lose you in the interview than in month four.
WHAT THIS JOB ACTUALLY IS
You own the floor during your shift and you own the trainers on it. That means floor standards, cleanliness and readiness for every hour you are on. It means the development of the Fitness Specialists on your shift, keeping them current on our systems and programming, and holding them to the standard when they drift. It means client retention on your shift, and escalating staffing and client problems before they become losses. You will also carry a client book. That work is real, and it is secondary to running the floor. You do not make final hiring or firing calls. You do make the recommendation, and your recommendation carries weight in the decision. If you tell us someone is not meeting the standard, we act on it.
WHY WE ARE HIRING FOR THIS
We are going to be straight with you, because you will find this out anyway. We publish our standards. Every session logged in Trainerize the same day. InBody scans at Day 0, Week 6 and Week 11. A miss ladder that escalates from a lost raise to a termination conversation. A revenue ratio that puts people on a performance plan. Publishing a standard and enforcing it are two different things, and we have not always been good at the second one. We are fixing that, and this seat is how. If you are the kind of person who gets frustrated watching standards go unenforced, this is the job where you get to do something about it.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO
We run two private personal training facilities on the North Shore of Long Island. Our mission is to redefine the limits of medicine through fitness. Our clients are not shopping for a gym. They were sent by a doctor. Something in their health has to change and they are ready to spend real money on a plan that works. Average sale is over $2,200.
STANDARDS THAT APPLY TO YOU
The Trainerize logging ladder applies to Shift Leads exactly as it applies to every Fitness Specialist. At 3 misses you are not eligible for a raise, at 5 not eligible for commissions, at 7 you are on a performance plan, at 8 it is a termination conversation. You cannot hold your shift to a standard you are not held to yourself. That is the whole job.
HOW YOU GET PAID ON TOP OF SALARY
The Redefine Standard is our annual season, and your participation is a term of your offer letter, not a handbook someone can rewrite on a Tuesday. One point equals one dollar of weekly business you move. Where you finish the season sets your raise, permanent and stacking.

ONE THING WE'LL BE STRAIGHT ABOUT

Are you comfortable working to those standards? Which NCCA accredited certification do you currently hold, when does it expire, and is your CPR and AED card current? This is a salaried, exempt Shift Lead seat at $72,000 a year, scheduled approximately 50 to 55 hours a week at our Mount Sinai location. You would be responsible for the floor during your shift and for the Fitness Specialists working it. Are you able to start on those terms?
