FitLab MOVE

Fitness Coach

Job Description

Part-Time Strength & Functional Movement Coach at FitLab MOVE | Austin, TX FitLab MOVE is hiring two to three part-time Strength & Functional Movement Coaches who are passionate about helping people move better, get stronger, and stay active for life. This is an ideal opportunity for someone building a career in fitness, personal training, strength and conditioning, athletic training, sports coaching, physical therapy, chiropractic, orthopedics, or another movement- and health-focused field. You will work in a boutique, clinically informed training environment where coaching quality, client relationships, and movement education matter. At FitLab MOVE, we do more than run workouts. We help adults build strength, confidence, mobility, and resilience so they can keep doing what they love. FitLab MOVE — Keep Austin Moving. Why This Role Matters The right coach gets genuine satisfaction from helping people feel capable in their bodies. Our members may be returning to exercise, training around old injuries, preparing for an active event, managing the demands of midlife, or simply trying to feel stronger and healthier. You will coach clients in small-group and semi-private settings, where you can build relationships, provide real feedback, and help people make meaningful progress. This role is built for a coach who wants to learn—not just lead workouts. You will gain experience in strength training, functional movement, exercise modifications, client communication, and collaboration within a clinically informed environment. FitLab MOVE also offers valuable exposure to the worlds of sports chiropractic, rehabilitation, physical therapy, and orthopedic-informed exercise. The position is primarily focused on coaching and client care—not sales quotas or high-pressure gym-floor prospecting. The Starting Strength Austin posting similarly emphasizes small-group instruction, individualized attention, continued coach development, and a coaching-first role; FitLab MOVE's version is tailored to functional movement, strength, longevity, and clinical collaboration. Responsibilities As a Strength & Functional Movement Coach, you will: Coach semi-private strength and movement sessions. Lead clients through effective warm-ups, mobility work, strength training, conditioning, and recovery-focused movement. Demonstrate exercises clearly and use simple, effective coaching cues. Help clients improve movement quality, confidence, strength, balance, and fitness. Provide appropriate exercise regressions, progressions, and modifications based on ability, experience, goals, and physical limitations. Monitor exercise technique, effort, fatigue, and safety throughout each session. Create a welcoming, organized, high-energy training environment. Learn and remember member names, goals, preferences, and relevant coaching considerations. Support clients who are returning to exercise, managing old injuries, or building strength for long-term health. Communicate relevant client observations to lead coaches and clinical providers when appropriate. Understand and respect scope of practice: coaches do not diagnose, treat injuries, or provide medical advice. Maintain a clean, safe, professional training floor and properly care for equipment. Participate in team meetings, ongoing education, coaching practice, and performance feedback. Help uphold the FitLab MOVE standard of hospitality, professionalism, and community. Who This Is For This role is a strong fit for someone pursuing or considering a career in: Personal training or strength and conditioning Exercise science, kinesiology, or human performance Athletic training Sports coaching Physical therapy or occupational therapy Chiropractic or sports rehabilitation Orthopedics or movement-based healthcare Health, fitness, wellness, or performance coaching Prior coaching experience is helpful, but we care most about your ability to learn, connect with people, receive feedback, and consistently show up ready to serve clients well. Ideal Candidate We are looking for coaches who bring a combination of movement curiosity, strong people skills, and professional reliability. You may be a great fit if you: Enjoy helping people become stronger, healthier, and more confident. Have a genuine interest in strength training, functional movement, mobility, rehabilitation, or performance. Can communicate clearly, positively, and professionally. Are comfortable coaching and encouraging people with a wide range of experience levels. Pay attention to details and take pride in doing things the right way. Are coachable, humble, curious, and open to feedback. Can bring positive energy without being overbearing or performative. Value hospitality and understand that people remember how a coach made them feel. Are dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work independently. Want to work in a team-oriented environment rather than a sales-driven commercial gym model. Are interested in learning how fitness coaching can complement chiropractic, physical therapy, and rehabilitation care. Preferred Qualifications Applicants do not need every qualification below. We encourage motivated candidates who are early in their career to apply. Current or pursuing degree in exercise science, kinesiology, athletic training, physical therapy, chiropractic, sports medicine, or a related field. Current or pursuing certification through NASM, NSCA, ACSM, ACE, ISSA, CFSC, FRC, or another recognized fitness organization. Previous experience in personal training, group fitness, strength coaching, sports coaching, athletic training, rehabilitation, or client-facing wellness work. (Not necessary) Familiarity with foundational movement patterns: squat, hinge, push, pull, carry, lunge, rotate, crawl, walk, and run. Experience with dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, cables, resistance bands, bodyweight training, and functional training equipment. Current CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain it shortly after hire. Ability to safely demonstrate and coach common strength-training movements.
