Pharmacist-PRN Boone County Hospital - Pharmacy
Boone, IA Employment Status:
PRN Join the Boone County Hospital Pharmacy Team today! We are seeking a dependable, flexible, and clinically focused PRN Pharmacist to provide intermittent coverage for our small hospital Pharmacy team. Hospital experience preferred, but willing to train quick learner. This role will support staffing needs for weekends, weekdays and possible on-call.
Hours of operation:
Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am-1:00pm.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the Director of Pharmacy in overseeing the daily operation of the pharmacy to ensure quality pharmacy services. Performs distributive and clinical duties. Communicates complex operational issues to the Director of Pharmacy efficiently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. Interpret medication orders (verbal and written), transcribe to computerized patient medication profile accurately. Maintain accurate and complete pharmacy patient medication profile. Patient and department charges processed accurately and timely. Maintain safety, integrity, and professionalism of pharmacy at all times. Maintain and implement Pharmacy Policy and Procedures Participate in departmental quality assurance program. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain records as security as required by law. Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals including sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products accurately. Provide ongoing feedback to management regarding pharmacy operations and suggestions for improvement when appropriate. Sustain approved critical access hospital formulary by utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection. Provide medication education to patients and families. Supervise pharmacy support personnel. Verify the daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of peers and support staff. Works independently with minimal supervision, ensuring that pharmacy services are provided in timely manner. Answer telephone, direct calls to appropriate personnel, answers requests at the window Assist in maintaining a clean, neat, and organized work environment, including equipment utilized. Participate in quality improvement and medication use review. Collect, monitor, and inspect data. Maintain appropriate logs, records or other documentation as required. Able to learn and utilize EMR and other computer programs in an effective manner to provide optimal patient care.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Current license in good standing to practice Pharmacy in the State of Iowa Graduate of ACPE accredited or equivalent College of Pharmacy Training and proficiency in age specific therapies for critical access hospital patients Work independently Ability to manage day to day activities and minor staffing concerns Communicate with peers and upper-level management effectively Ability to prioritize Pharmacist skills Stress management skills Customer oriented Pressure to perform in emergency situations Overall decision making responsibilities Able to handle constant interruptions Multi-tasking ability required Able to learn and utilize EMR effectively

CONDITIONS
Typical working conditions include sitting, walking and extended periods of standing. Repetitive motions with fingers and hands would be expected due to computer time, checking prescriptions, Pyxis fill and compounding sterile preparations. Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
