Job Description

The Pharmacy Assistant position involves assisting the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians with assigned tasks. Bilingual English/Spanish skills required for this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed, Registered Pharmacist, and following established organization, local, state, and federal policies, procedures, regulations, and statutes, the Pharmacy Assistant may be delegated the following roles and duties:
Customer Service:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to perform friendly, accurate and timely customer service to all patients, be it on the phone or in person. This will include operating the cash registers, processing prescription refills and making adherence calls. All clinical questions will be deferred to the pharmacist on duty. In order to support these duties, the Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to display within the training period the necessary and sufficient competencies to navigate all necessary technical and data systems and areas in the pharmacy.
Processing shipment:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to process prescriptions for shipment, including the labeling, packaging for shipping, or delivery of prescriptions.
Filing:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to maintain and file all necessary paperwork delegated to him/her by Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician. Maintaining a clean and organized environment at all times.
Quality and Service:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to uphold the highest standards of quality and accuracy, ensuring patient safety. The Pharmacy Assistant will ideally display the core value of discretionary effort in their role and supporting the GHMS mission.
Communication:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to initiate or receive communications from practitioners, patients, and caregivers. The Pharmacy Assistant is expected to spend significant time communicating verbally and face-to-face. Additionally, the Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to be competent, helpful, and courteous to all patients, providers, and other callers, within their scope, triaging clinical questions and issues to the Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Assistant is expected to be comfortable communicating with colleagues, patients, providers, clinic staff, and others, in person, telephonically, and in writing. The Pharmacy Assistant should identify, or alert the pharmacist when in doubt, to any gap in health literacy or communication impairment that they identify when interacting with patients or caregivers that would be an impediment to safe medication use.
Inventory Management:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to correctly stock shelves in the pharmacy and OTC areas. This will include rotating stock, ensuring medications are not expired or appear otherwise adulterated, and returning prescriptions as necessary. Participate in the pharmacy department's annual inventory count.
Patient Enablement:
The Pharmacy Assistant will be expected to be aware of any barriers to appropriate medication use, including language, physical ability, and financial barriers, triaging patients and providers to the pharmacist as appropriate. Other duties as assigned to maintain an efficient workflow throughout the pharmacy department. Such as stocking supplies, emptying garbage and maintaining the cleanliness of the pharmacy area, etc. This position should aspire to be a certified Pharmacy Technician to support the dynamic needs of a growing company.
