Job Description
Pharmacy Technician Job Description The Pharmacy Technician supports prescription fulfillment operations by accurately preparing medication orders for pharmacist review in a closed-door pharmacy setting. This role focuses on selecting, labeling, scanning, and packaging medications while maintaining compliance with all applicable pharmacy regulations and internal policies. The technician works collaboratively with pharmacists and team members to ensure timely, safe, and efficient delivery of medications to patients. Responsibilities Select medications from inventory and pre-pack storage areas based on daily prescription orders, ensuring correct drug, strength, and quantity. Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to established procedures. Process daily medication orders in a timely manner while following established priorities, workflows, and productivity expectations. Assist with returned medications, including proper sorting, recycling, or disposal in accordance with pharmacy policies and regulations. Support pre-packaging of high-volume medications during slower order periods, including accurate labeling and restocking of pre-packaged items. Package medications and related materials by hand as required, ensuring secure, organized, and clearly labeled packaging. Follow all applicable federal and state regulations, including HIPAA guidelines, to protect patient privacy and maintain regulatory compliance. Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked workstations for each shift to support an efficient and safe work environment. Notify the supervising pharmacist promptly of any issues such as scanning errors, product discrepancies, or inventory concerns. Adhere to departmental policies related to safety, attendance, and dress code at all times. Be available to work overtime, weekend, and holiday shifts as business needs require. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations and patient service. Essential Skills Pharmacy experience or training sufficient to accurately select, label, and package medications under pharmacist supervision. Strong customer service skills to support internal and external stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner. Pharmacy technician certification that aligns with state requirements. Proficiency in data entry with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to follow procedures related to prior authorization processes as needed. Ability to understand and follow federal and state pharmacy regulations, including HIPAA guidelines. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple orders, priorities, and workflows in a fast-paced environment. High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling medications and patient information. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Active Minnesota pharmacy technician license. Ability to work 2nd shift hours and every other weekend as scheduled. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a structured, process-driven environment. Strong communication skills to interact clearly with pharmacists and colleagues regarding order issues or discrepancies. Work Environment This position is based in a closed-door pharmacy environment operating on a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with every other weekend required. The role involves standing for extended periods, working at organized workstations, and using pharmacy systems and scanning equipment to process medication orders. Team members work in a highly regulated setting that emphasizes accuracy, safety, confidentiality, and adherence to departmental policies, including a defined dress code. The pace can be fast, especially during peak order times, and may require occasional overtime, weekend, and holiday shifts to meet business needs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
