Job Description
Infusion Pharmacy Technician Job Description The Infusion Pharmacy Technician prepares and dispenses unit doses of specialty pharmaceuticals, including injectables, IV medications, and related supplies, while providing exceptional phone-based support to patients and the pharmacy team. This role works closely with pharmacists and other technicians in a collaborative environment to ensure timely, accurate, and safe pharmacy operations for infusion and specialty therapies. Responsibilities Prepare and dispense unit doses of specialty pharmaceuticals, including injectables, IV medications, and related supplies in accordance with established procedures and regulations. Accurately process and fill infusion and specialty medication orders under the supervision of a pharmacist. Call patients to coordinate medication needs, clarify information, and provide courteous, professional support. Answer incoming phone calls and respond to patient, provider, and internal team inquiries in a timely and helpful manner. Work within a multidisciplinary pharmacy team to triage and respond promptly to all pharmacy needs. Prioritize and manage daily workload to ensure timely dispensing, order processing, and communication. Assist pharmacists and other team members with day-to-day pharmacy operations as needed. Maintain accurate documentation and records related to medication dispensing and patient interactions. Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, and safety standards to support high-quality patient care. Identify and help resolve issues or obstacles in the workflow by working independently and collaborating with the team when necessary. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician. Active and unrestricted Minnesota Pharmacy Technician license. Experience in pharmacy settings such as IV, retail, or specialty pharmacy. Ability to work independently to solve high-stakes problems in a fast-paced environment. Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize workload throughout the day. Effective customer service skills with a professional and patient-focused communication style. Ability to work collaboratively within a team of pharmacists, technicians, and support staff. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education. Pharmacy experience within a hospital or home infusion setting preferred. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification preferred. Experience in specialty pharmacy operations is beneficial. Strong phone etiquette and comfort communicating with patients and healthcare professionals. Work Environment This position follows an 8-hour shift schedule between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., offering a stable daytime work routine. You will work as part of a close-knit team that includes approximately six pharmacists, six pharmacy technicians, and one support staff member, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. The role is based in a professional pharmacy setting focused on infusion and specialty medications, where accuracy, safety, and patient care are top priorities. The dress code is business-appropriate casual, reflecting a professional yet comfortable workplace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St Paul, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
