The overall purpose and objective of the Intern is to gain work experience in the field prior to graduating. This is an opportunity to utilize and apply the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom setting and apply it in the workforce. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for handling department assigned projects, given a moderate degree of independence. You will frequently meet with supervisors to go over the status and progress of assignments. The Advance Pharmacy Practice Experience at CalOptima Health will provide you with a broad overview of managed care pharmacy practice with additional opportunities for direct patient care experience through a variety of clinical service lines, including face-to-face or telephonic comprehensive medication reviews as a part of the OneCare in-house Medication Therapy Management program, telephonic targeted medication counseling and medication profile reviews for identified high risk patients as part of the Interdisciplinary Care Team rounds. You will also apply clinical knowledge obtained through didactic coursework to provide care to a large and diverse patient population in a managed care setting. Additionally, you will learn about the relationships managed care organizations have with the community pharmacy provider network, physician provider network and the Pharmacy Benefit Manager.
