The phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipunctures to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis. This role includes ensuring patient comfort, maintaining safety protocols, and adhering to the clinic's policies and procedures. The phlebotomist will work closely with other healthcare professionals to support patient care in a family practice setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Blood Collection:
Perform venipunctures on patients of all ages preferred. Follow proper techniques and infection control protocols to ensure patient safety.
Patient Interaction:
Greet and prepare patients for blood collection, explaining procedures to alleviate anxiety. Assess patient conditions, including identifying any special requirements or concerns.
Sample Handling:
Label and process blood samples accurately and in compliance with laboratory standards. Ensure the proper storage and transportation of samples to the laboratory.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of blood draws, including patient information and sample identification. Document any adverse reactions or complications arising during the procedure.
Equipment Management:
Monitor inventory levels and assist in ordering necessary supplies.
Quality Control and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols, including universal precautions and proper disposal of biohazard waste. Participate in quality assurance activities to improve service and compliance with regulations.
Collaboration:
Assist other healthcare professionals as needed, including Medical Assistants and physicians. Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding patient needs and test results
