Position Summary A phlebotomist in a nursing home is responsible for collecting blood samples from residents in a safe, compassionate, and professional manner. As a phlebotomist you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for drawing blood specimens from residents for laboratory testing while ensuring comfort, dignity, and safety. The ideal candidate has excellent patient care skills, attention to detail, and experience working with elderly or long-term care patients.

Blood/Body Fluids:
Category I :
Tasks in this category involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and require the use of personal protective equipment.
Category II :
Tasks in this category involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned category I tasks.
Category III :
these tasks require no exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues, and category I tasks are not a condition of employment. Collect blood samples using venipuncture and capillary techniques Verify patient identity and accurately label specimens Maintain proper documentation and specimen records Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA procedures Monitor residents for adverse reactions during or after blood draws Transport specimens to laboratories according to protocol Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment and work areas Communicate professionally with nurses, physicians, residents, and family members Provide compassionate care to elderly residents, including those with dementia or mobility limitations Assist with scheduling and coordinating lab collections as needed Benefits Competitive salary Medical, Dental & Vision plans Vacation plan 401K retirement Tuition Reimbursement Paid Time Off Positive work environment Regular staff appreciation and recognition Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program Current phlebotomy certification preferred (such as ASCP, NHA, or AMT) Previous experience in a nursing home, hospital, or long-term care setting preferred Knowledge of infection control and specimen handling procedures Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team Interaction with elderly and medically fragile residents Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials Pillar of Cedar Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
