Phlebotomist II Working Location:
595 Loudon, Latham, NY Duration- 3+ months
Schedule:
Varied Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-5:30 PM; alternating Saturdays, 7:00 AM-1:00 PM. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontamination, and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection processes, such as urine or fecal collection, as required.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in the appropriate collection container/tube.
Accurately label specimens and follow specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
2-4 years of experience.
