Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Lab Collector assists with the collection, documentation, and shipment of specimens for the purpose of clinical testing. The position is located within OVP Health Care offices. Samples will most often include blood and urine.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts specimen collection, sometimes directly observed. Gathers, verifies, and enters patient data onto requisitions. Ships specimens to the laboratory on a timely basis. Orders and maintains supplies. Maintains cleanliness of the collection area. Assists the client services team in correcting discrepancies. Serves as the liaison between the laboratory and provider. Follows company policies, guidelines, and compliance requirements. Meets continuous process improvement and/or standardization initiatives. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, required. Phlebotomy Certification/Diploma preferred. Minimum one year experience with laboratory collection preferred. Minimum one year experience working in a healthcare practice setting, preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of related organizational policies to administer patient care. Working knowledge of computers, especially word, excel. and medical software. Reliable transportation to travel to and between locations. Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and Office of Inspector General check.

Physical demands described are representative of those that must be routinely met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualifies individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties. Ability to lift minimum 25 pounds. Ability to perform job responsibilities in a facility with multiple levels and without elevator or mechanical transportation. Operates a computer and keyboard.
Work Environment:
This job operates in an outpatient facility environment.
