Job Description

OhioHealth is seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will support Physical Therapists in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, implement treatment plans, assist with therapeutic exercises, monitor patient progress, and document outcomes accurately. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient mobility, function, and quality of life. Responsibilities Deliver physical therapy interventions under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist, following individualized plans of care to help patients improve mobility, strength, and functional independence. Assist with patient evaluations by gathering relevant clinical information, observing movement patterns, and reporting findings to the supervising Physical Therapist. Provide safe, effective therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance activities, and functional mobility training aligned with established treatment goals and Ohio Health protocols. Instruct patients and families in home exercise programs, safe body mechanics, and use of assistive devices to support continued progress outside the clinical setting. Accurately document treatments, patient responses, and progress in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with regulatory, payer, and Ohio Health documentation standards. Collaborate with Physical Therapists, nurses, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care and adjust interventions as needed. Monitor patient tolerance, pain levels, vital signs, and safety during therapy sessions, promptly reporting changes in condition or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist. Maintain a clean, safe treatment environment by preparing treatment areas, inspecting equipment, and following infection prevention and control guidelines. Educate patients with compassion and cultural sensitivity, supporting Ohio Health's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive care for all individuals. Participate in ongoing professional development, in service training, and competency activities offered through Ohio Health to enhance clinical skills and support career growth. Required Skills Therapeutic exercise implementation Manual therapy techniques (as allowed by state practice act) Gait training and balance interventions Use of modalities (e.g., ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat/cold) per PT plan and policy Patient transfer and safe mobility techniques Vital signs monitoring and basic patient assessment Documentation in electronic health records (EHR) Time management and caseload prioritization Infection prevention and control practices Patient and family education on home exercise programs Interdisciplinary team communication Knowledge of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions Understanding of rehabilitation principles and outcomes measurement Adherence to HIPAA and patient privacy regulations
