Job Description

Under the direction of the Manager/Director of the Rehabilitation Services Department, and supervision of a physical therapist, the physical therapy assistant is responsible for providing treatments and education to patients and their families. They carry out the treatment plan as developed by the physical therapist. They report any changes in patient status to the physical therapist so the plan of care can be updated. He/she provides advisory service to other professionals who share responsibility for patient care and participates in the development of the rehabilitation program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A physical therapist assistant must have an Associates of Art Degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant from a college accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association. He/she must have a certificate from the State of New York.

- Provides treatment and patient/caregiver education according to approved practices, policies, and procedures of the Physical Therapy Department of Ellis Hospital and New York State law. Demonstrates skills and abilities to assess and treat newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Performs physical therapy procedures as directed by the physical therapist Communicates pertinent information with the physical therapist's consistent with diagnosis and rehabilitation goals. Provides approved documentation to appropriate authorities. Demonstrates effective communication skills with all persons involved in patient care and/or hospital activities. Assures financial viability according to standards of practice. Demonstrates his/her commitment to professional growth and competency. Promotes effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships - professional conduct. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to mandatory education, annual health assessment, and licensure verification. Salary Range:
$21.22-30.77 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
