A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.

- Shift Details
- + Monday through Friday, primarily 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Qualifications + The candidate must:
- Hold a current and unrestricted Alaska license as a Physician Assistant under 12 AAC 40.400
- Hold a current unrestricted DEA registration authorizing the prescribing of Schedule II, III, IV, and V controlled substances
- Have at least two years of family practice or general practice experience
- Conduct physical examinations and obtain medical histories
- Diagnose medical conditions
- Order tests and X-rays
- Develop treatment plans and prescribe medications
- Perform minor medical procedures
- Consult with and refer patients to specialists when authorized
- Complete required documentation in the Department's electronic health record
- Provide after-hours telephone consultation when scheduled
- Pass the Department's background investigation and security clearance
- Work onsite at an on-road or off-road Alaska correctional facility
- Prior emergency medicine or correctional healthcare experience is preferred.
