Job Description

Cass Health is seeking an experienced, patient-focused Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Emergency Department on a PRN basis. The APP serves as a licensed independent practitioner and delivers high-quality, evidence-based emergency care in alignment with State and Federal regulations. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, diagnosis, development and implementation of treatment plans, and ongoing evaluation of patient outcomes. Care is delivered in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to support exceptional clinical quality and patient experience.
Education & Experience Requirements Education Required:
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Licenses & Certifications Required:
  • Active Iowa RN license (for APRNs)
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant licensure in Iowa
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS (or completion within hire)
Training & Experience Preferred:
  • Two to three years of Emergency Department experience Essential Responsibilities
  • Performs age-appropriate assessment of physical, psychological, social, and environmental needs
  • Orders and manages diagnostic tests, medications, and treatments using evidence-based standards
  • Accurately interprets cardiac rhythms and initiates necessary interventions aligned with ACLS protocols
  • Maintains thorough and timely clinical documentation
  • Demonstrates exceptional communication and service behaviors, including AIDET and bedside rounding
  • Protects patient privacy and maintains strict confidentiality
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development and shares clinical knowledge with colleagues
  • Collaborates effectively with the ED team to ensure seamless, patient-centered care delivery
  • Uses hospital resources responsibly and supports a safe, efficient work environment
  • Attends at least 50% of department meetings to remain current with clinical priorities and process updates
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support department operations and patient care
