POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Cardiology Physician Assistant (PA) to join our hospital-based cardiology team. The Cardiology Advanced Practice Clinician participates in the care of patients across multiple clinical settings. This position manages the flow of patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiovascular Interventional Laboratory (CVIL), including patients discharged the same day and those admitted to the cardiac telemetry floor for post-procedural monitoring. The role also includes managing direct admissions from outpatient clinics for monitoring of antiarrhythmic therapy, caring for patients transferred from outside hospitals with acute cardiac conditions, and supervising multiple forms of cardiac stress testing. There may also be opportunities to scrub in and serve as first or second assistant during cardiac electrophysiology procedures, including pacemaker implants and ablations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete daily rounds on post-procedure cardiac inpatients and direct admissions. Recognize, respond to, and manage post-procedural complications. Review laboratory findings and diagnostic studies, including EKGs and chest X-rays. Present and discuss clinical findings with the attending cardiologist to establish treatment plans. Document daily progress notes and treatment plans in the electronic medical record. Participate in discharge planning from admission through hospitalization, including preparing discharge instructions. Write prescriptions, including Schedule II medications, for patients discharged home or transferred to short-term rehabilitation. Complete histories and physicals, discharge summaries, and transfer summaries using voice-recognition or transcription services. Perform medication reconciliation and enter pre-procedure, post-procedure, and admission orders. Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and their families. Provide psychological, emotional, and informational support to patients and families. Communicate patient needs to the appropriate members of the clinical team. Provide clinical education to advanced practice students and medical residents regarding cardiology policies and procedures. Supervise cardiovascular stress testing, including exercise stress tests, exercise stress echocardiograms, and exercise or pharmacologic nuclear stress tests. Communicate abnormal stress-test findings promptly to the ordering provider. Provide an initial response to acute complications and emergencies and initiate appropriate clinical interventions. Collaborate with cardiology NPs and PAs to coordinate patient flow and maintain appropriate coverage within the CVIL and cardiac stress-testing laboratories

QUALIFICATIONS

At least two years of relevant cardiology experience required. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in Massachusetts. Current DEA registration. Current Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration (MCSR). Current BLS and ACLS certifications. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment.

SCHEDULE

HEDULE Full-time weekday position. Eight-hour and 10-hour day shifts are available. Monday through Friday. No weekends.
