A Physician Assistant provides medical care to patients, under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Works in all areas and specialties of medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine but has less formal certification than a physician. Performs duties delegated by a physician such as recording patient medical histories, ordering diagnostic tests, or giving immunizations. May serve as the primary healthcare provider, in consultation with a part-time physician, in communities with limited health care resources.

Job Description

Responsible for treating and providing health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a physician. Educates patients on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders or diseases. Assists patients in the management of chronic diseases and illnesses and promotes health and wellness.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Evaluates patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and gathers patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. 2. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results. 3. Performs treatment procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. 4. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. 5. Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required:
1. Bachelor of Science Degree. 2. Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant studies or related field. 3. Valid NJ Physician Assistant license. 4. American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) Certification. 5. Basic Life Support (BLC) Certification.
Preferred:
1. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
