Indiana University Health Medical Group South Region is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician to join our established interdisciplinary palliative care team in Bloomington, Indiana. This position offers the opportunity to practice within a highly supportive team environment while serving patients throughout south-central Indiana. The primary focus will be inpatient palliative care at IU Health Bloomington Hospital, with opportunities to participate in a growing outpatient and virtual palliative care program. Bloomington serves as a vibrant regional healthcare hub, offering the benefits of a Big Ten university community, cultural amenities, and abundant outdoor recreation.
Position Details:
- Primary practice location at IU Health Bloomington Hospital with limited outpatient clinic responsibilities
- Approximately 95% inpatient and 5% outpatient practice opportunity
- Provide inpatient palliative care consultations, follow-up care, symptom management, and goals-of-care discussions for adults with serious illness
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, nursing support, and social work professionals
- Opportunity to support a growing outpatient and virtual palliative care program serving regional and critical access hospitals
- Participate in shared physician call coverage, primarily weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Teaching opportunities available through the Indiana University School of Medicine, including medical students and residents
- Additional opportunities available in program development, operational planning, committee participation, and quality initiatives based on individual interests
Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship training required
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Eligible for Indiana medical licensure
- Open to experienced physicians, fellows, and graduating trainees
- Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills

The new IU Health Bloomington Hospital and Regional Academic Health Center, part of the Indiana University Health Medical Group, opened in December 2021. The facility offers a personalized approach to inpatient services (including intensive care, complex surgeries and comprehensive obstetrics and gynecology services), outpatient services with leading-edge diagnostic testing, flexible space in the emergency department for post-care observation, a dedicated trauma center and a cancer infusion center.
