IU Health Medical Group East Region-Cardiovascular Surgery is seeking a board-certified experienced cardiothoracic surgeon to join our highly collaborative team at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. This is an exceptional opportunity for a surgeon looking to step into a high-impact role with strong mentorship and collaborative environment. Given the close proximity to the northside of Indianapolis, this surgeon can also reside in a great suburb such as Fishers which is #2 in the nation in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best Places to Live!

Position Highlights

Full-time (1.0 FTE); Weekdays plus call

Clinical focus: Inpatient, OR, outpatient clinic

Patient volume:
Clinic and Hospital:

10-20 patients/week (may vary)

Practice & Team

This is an established cardiovascular surgery group with:

3 cardiothoracic surgeons 3 experienced advanced practice providers; also support weekend rounding and call

Dedicated support staff Shared call

Collegial, team-oriented environment with strong physician leadership

Close collaboration with cardiology, anesthesiology, and critical care

Teaching opportunities with residents, full research department; academic affiliation potential with IU School of Medicine

No local competition Link to Cardiovascular Surgery-Muncie

Clinical Scope

This position offers a broad and complex case mix with steady procedural demand, including:

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)

Valve repair and replacement

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

Robotic thoracic surgery

Lung resections (including wedge resections) Candidate Qualifications

Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery

Completion of Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship Experienced surgeons strongly preferred

Demonstrated commitment to high-quality outcomes and patient-centered care

Interest in mentoring and long-term growth within the practice

IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital is a 379-bed hospital and is designated as a level 3 trauma center. It is both a teaching hospital and a regional tertiary referral center.
