Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology Date Posted:

2026-09-17

Job Location:
Chapel Hill, NC Job Requirements:

Be a Tar Heel! The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Anesthesiology seeks an accomplished and visionary leader to serve as Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity to guide a high-performing division and shape the future of pediatric perioperative care within a rapidly expanding children's health system. UNC Children's Hospital is consistently ranked among the nation's leading children's hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and is entering a transformative period of growth, including state-supported development of a new free-standing children's hospital, the first of its kind in North Carolina! This evolution provides a unique platform for strategic leadership, program development, and regional impact. The Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology is a collaborative team delivering more than 12,000 anesthetics annually across a diverse and high-acuity clinical environment. The practice spans all pediatric subspecialties and includes a 20-bed PICU and 13-bed PCICU. The division leads and partners in key multidisciplinary initiatives, including a growing pediatric sedation service, a robust regional anesthesia program, and an established inpatient pediatric chronic pain service with expansion plans for outpatient, multidisciplinary pain care. The Division Chief will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for pediatric anesthesiology. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner to departmental, surgical, nursing, and hospital leadership, advancing a shared vision for clinical excellence, access, quality, and programmatic growth. Key responsibilities include faculty recruitment and development, strengthening multidisciplinary partnerships, expanding high-impact clinical programs and aligning divisional priorities with institutional growth, including the development of a new children's hospital. The Chief will act as a balanced advocate across the missions of patient care, education, and scholarship. The department maintains a fully ACGME-accredited Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship and serves as a primary training site for the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Faculty are supported by protected academic time, a formal faculty development program, and a strong mentorship infrastructure.
