Overview We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Dermatopathologist to join our physician-owned private dermatology practice. The Dermatopathologist will provide expert interpretation of dermatopathology specimens, collaborate closely with clinical dermatologists to optimize patient care, and contribute to quality assurance and laboratory operations. This position offers the opportunity to serve as Medical Director of the dermatopathology laboratory, overseeing regulatory compliance and laboratory quality while helping grow an integrated pathology service Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities Interpret dermatopathology specimens accurately and efficiently. Issue timely, comprehensive pathology reports. Correlate histopathologic findings with clinical information. Consult with practice's dermatology providers regarding difficult or unusual cases. Order ancillary testing and perform interpretation, including immunohistochemistry, direct immunofluorescence, and molecular testing as appropriate. Laboratory Leadership Serve as Medical Director of the dermatopathology laboratory. Oversee laboratory quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, and applicable state regulations. Develop and maintain laboratory policies and standard operating procedures. Participate in laboratory inspections and accreditation activities. Monitor quality metrics and implement corrective actions as needed. Work closely with dermatologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and laboratory staff. Administrative Responsibilities Review laboratory performance metrics. Assist with budgeting and resource planning for laboratory services. Evaluate new diagnostic technologies and testing platforms. Participate in recruitment and mentoring of laboratory personnel when appropriate. Provide educational support to clinicians regarding pathology findings. Participate in physician meetings and clinical quality initiatives. Assist in developing clinic protocols related to pathology services. Qualifications MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Preferred 3-5 years of dermatopathology experience (preferred but not required). Experience serving as a laboratory medical director (preferred but not required). Experience with laboratory information systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Exceptional diagnostic accuracy. Ability to manage a dermatopathology practice efficiently. Strong collaborative approach with clinicians. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Leadership experience in laboratory operations. Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety. Completion of an accredited residency in Anatomic Pathology (or AP/CP) or in Dermatology. Completion of an accredited Dermatopathology Fellowship. Board certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology or in Dermatology by the Amercian Board of Dermatolgoy. Board certification (or eligibility) in Dermatopathology. Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia. Eligible to serve as Laboratory Medical Director under CLIA requirements.
