Job Description

ABOUT MARKET STREET PSYCHOTHERAPY
Market Street Psychotherapy is a boutique private-pay psychotherapy and psychiatry practice in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. At its core, our work is grounded in the belief that psychotherapy is a pathway toward deeper self-understanding. We are interested in how people come to be the way they are—their patterns, internal conflicts, relationships, and ways of being—and how that understanding can open the possibility for meaningful change. Our clinical work is primarily insight-oriented and depth-focused , rather than skills-based or protocol-driven. We tend to work with patients in ongoing and consistent treatment, often with an eye toward higher-frequency work , and we prioritize long-term therapeutic relationships over short-term symptom reduction. We are intentionally a small practice and prioritize clinical quality, autonomy, and sustainability over volume or rapid growth. Each clinician maintains ownership of their clinical work while also participating in a collegial environment where providers consult with one another and think together about clinical material over time. Our team includes both therapists and psychiatrists, and we maintain an active referral network within the community.
WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR
This position is best suited for clinicians whose primary orientation is depth-oriented psychotherapy , including (but limited to): Psychodynamic / psychoanalytic Existential Person-centered, relational, or narrative Attachment-focused or relational approaches We are not a behavioral or protocol-driven practice . Clinicians whose work is primarily CBT, exposure-based, or manualized treatment will not be a strong fit for this role.
We are seeking clinicians who:
Have a clear and developed orientation toward depth-oriented therapy Are interested in building and maintaining a long-term, private-pay caseload Take ownership of their clinical work, including patient engagement and retention Are comfortable and clear in discussing fees and the financial aspects of treatment with patients Value autonomy and are reliable with follow-through (documentation, communication, scheduling) Are interested in being part of a small, collaborative clinical community
CLINICAL WORK & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide individual psychotherapy to adult patients (50-minute sessions) Option to provide couples therapy if trained and interested Conduct initial sessions and establish treatment direction Recommend session frequency based on clinical judgment, consistent with a depth-oriented model Participate in consultation calls with prospective patients and assess goodness-of-fit Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation Manage ongoing patient relationships and course of treatment over time
AREAS OF INTEREST
We are particularly interested in clinicians who may bring additional areas of experience or openness that complement the practice, such as: Working with adolescents (13+) Couples or family therapy Group therapy Specialized modalities (e.g., EMDR, IFS, somatic approaches, BAP, etc.) These areas are intended to supplement—not replace—a core practice of individual psychotherapy with adults , which we consider central to the role.
CLINICAL ENVIRONMENT
We place a strong emphasis on ongoing clinical thinking and intellectual engagement .
Clinicians participate in:
Regular case consultation Journal clubs and discussion of clinical theory and writing These conversations are intended to deepen and refine existing clinical work, rather than function as a primary training environment. We also emphasize maintaining a consistent therapeutic frame , including clear boundaries and continuity of care, as essential to depth-oriented work. Administrative systems are designed to be simple and streamlined , allowing clinicians to focus primarily on clinical work. Clinicians have a high degree of autonomy in how they practice, paired with responsibility for maintaining an engaged, ongoing course of treatment.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is based on a percentage of collected revenue, with clinicians receiving 50% of the revenue they generate . In practice, this typically results in approximately $110+ per clinical hour , depending on the clinician's fee. Doctoral-level clinicians (PsyD/PhD) generally earn more per hour due to higher session rates. Additional compensation is provided for non-clinical hours, and periodic bonuses may be available.
BENEFITS
Employment is offered under a W2 model Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance (100% covered for employees) 401(k) with 4% employer match Paid sick leave (56 hours annually) Paid vacation (starting at 25 hours annually, increasing with tenure) Annual professional development stipend ($1,000) Malpractice insurance coverage (including legal support)
