A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist or licensed therapy assistant, performs client treatment programs and activities as prescribed and provides technical assistance regarding therapeutic programs, methods, and equipment. Prepares patient and equipment for treatments by positioning patient and assembling equipment necessary for treatment. Under direct supervision of the Therapist applies basic modalities with established patients. Assists in carrying out various treatment procedures established by the therapist. Performs other duties as assigned.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare patient and equipment for treatments by positioning patient and assembling equipment necessary for treatment
- Under direct supervision of the therapist, apply basic modalities with established patients; assist in carrying out various treatment procedures established by the therapist; observe and reports to therapist patient's condition, reaction and response to treatment; assist in supervision of patients with established exercise routines as approved by the therapist.
- Ensure there is an adequate supply of materials available; change linens; clean and maintain equipment and all work areas.
- Ensure the safety and maintenance of physical areas and equipment used during therapy/treatment
- Communicate effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions; respond quickly and efficiently in emergencies; make observations of changes or reactions in patients; and assist and prepare patients for treatment with various therapy exercises and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Communicate effectively, understand and follow oral and written instructions, respond quickly and efficiently in emergencies, make observations of changes or reactions in patients.
- Assist and prepare patients for treatment with various therapy exercises and equipment
- Current CPR/BLS certification via the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a medical facility with patient contact
