Recreation is seeking a dependable, energetic Recreation Assistant to provide individualized support to people with developmental disabilities. Most services are provided one-on-one in clients' homes and throughout the community under the supervision of a recreational therapist or behavior consultant. This is an active, community-based position. A typical session may involve picking up a client from home and visiting the YMCA, library, park, bowling alley, Sky Zone, or one of our offices. Activities may include exercising, swimming, hiking, camping, playing games, completing puzzles or crafts, attending community events, or participating in recreational therapy groups. Activities are selected based on each client's interests, abilities, support needs, and individualized goals. The purpose is to help clients build independence, improve their physical and emotional well-being, develop social skills, and participate more fully in their communities. Responsibilities Provide safe, respectful, and engaging one-on-one support in clients' homes and community settings Transport clients to and from scheduled activities using a safe and reliable vehicle Facilitate recreational activities that support independence, wellness, social interaction, and community participation Participate with clients in activities such as fitness, swimming, bowling, arts and crafts, games, puzzles, hiking, camping, library visits, and community events Help clients explore new interests and develop meaningful leisure routines Adapt activities based on each client's abilities, preferences, sensory needs, and goals Follow individualized plans and guidance provided by the supervising recreational therapist or behavior consultant Observe and document client participation, progress, responses, and relevant concerns Communicate professionally with clients, families, supervisors, and other members of the support team Maintain professional boundaries and protect client confidentiality Follow all F.L.O.W. Recreation safety, documentation, transportation, and HIPAA requirements Experience and Qualifications Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or related support needs is preferred Education or experience in recreational therapy, psychology, social work, special education, human services, behavioral health, or a related field is helpful Comfortable working independently with clients while following the direction of a recreational therapist or behavior consultant Patient, dependable, creative, and able to adjust when plans or client needs change Strong verbal and written communication skills Able to complete required documentation accurately and on time Comfortable participating in active indoor and outdoor recreational activities Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation Comfortable driving and transporting clients throughout Carmel and surrounding communities Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to meet F.L.O.W.
