Berkshire Lake Arts Camp is looking for our next Theater Director to help shape our growing theater program! Berkshire Lake Arts Camp is a new and growing program. Summer 2027 will be our fourth summer, which means our theater program is still emerging, so this is an exciting opportunity for a Theater educator and leader who doesn't just want to step into an established program, but wants to help build one. We are looking for someone who can bring their own ideas, experience, creativity, and vision while working within the larger philosophy and culture of BLAC. Our ideal Theater Director is someone who is passionate about theater, loves teaching girls ages 7-15, and is equally excited about camp itself. Someone who will enthusiastically jump into a campfire, cheer at a talent show, laugh with counselors, help whenever and wherever something needs doing, and understand that being a great camp leader is about so much more than what happens inside the theater program. This person will teach theater classes, evaluate camper skill levels, supervise a small team of theater counselors, and oversee the department's end-of-session showcases. BLAC is a non-competitive environment. We want our actors to challenge themselves, develop their skills, try new things, and feel proud of their growth without feeling that they are competing against one another. The role also goes beyond the theater program. As a member of camp's leadership team, the Theater Director is also responsible for helping create the overall BLAC experience. This means being an active and enthusiastic participant in camp life, supporting counselors, helping with residence life, contributing to a positive staff culture, and being willing to pitch in wherever needed. This is a leadership position for someone who understands that camp's culture and overall success is everyone's responsibility.
