What they do
A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Lansing/Detroit Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Successful completion of the NCTRC exam and active CTRS license in the state of MI
- The physical ability to lift, position, and transport patients with physical impairments.
- Must be willing to travel to clients' locations (typically, up to 2 hours) Desired (but not required):
- Experience working with individuals who have sustained injuries from a motor vehicle accident and/or experience working with individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, or fractures.
- Experience and/or education in community reintegration/leisure activities.
