An Activities Director oversees the therapeutic and recreational activities for geriatric groups. They may work in a retirement home, nursing home, senior center or healthcare setting.
Experienced in planning and overseeing holistic wellness and engagement programs for older adult populations in a residential care setting. Responsible for designing and executing activities that support residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance residents' quality of life while maintaining regulatory compliance and budgetary oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage a diverse calendar of programs, events, and outings tailored to meet the individual and collective needs of residents. Conduct assessments and use resident life histories to personalize activity plans and support resident engagement. Oversee daily operations of the department, including scheduling, staffing, inventory management, and program execution. Ensure programming coverage across all days of the week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Coordinate with other departments to facilitate community-wide events and ensure seamless resident support. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and team members assisting with activities. Partner with leadership to support community initiatives, including family meetings, wellness planning, and marketing events. Participate in care planning, interdisciplinary meetings, and serve as a liaison for residents and families regarding programming. Maintain documentation and records in compliance with applicable standards and community policies.
Skills & Qualifications:
Background in human services, recreational therapy, or related fields preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. Experience working with older adults, preferably in a residential or long-term care environment. Capable of managing multiple projects and adapting to changing needs and priorities. Competent in facilitating group and individual activities across a broad range of interests and abilities. Comfortable with light physical activity, including lifting and assisting with mobility during events or outings. Valid driver's license and ability to support community transportation needs as required.
