Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Andrew Residence is currently hiring a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS)! New grads

Work at Andrew Residence with our dynamic cross-functional team of mental health professionals including clinical social workers, nurses, and therapeutic recreation specialists. Current Full-time TRS Opening (1.0 FTE): Schedule Mondays & Tuesdays, 12:30-9:00 PM Wednesdays & Thursdays, 8:00 AM
  • 4:30 PM OR 8:30 AM
  • 5:00 PM (
  • flexibility based on preference) Fridays
  • Rotating schedule, 10:00 AM
  • 6:30 PM OR 12:30-9:00 PM 1 weekend/month (Saturday & Sunday) Compensation starting at $28.
50/hour with higher education & certification credit (Master's degree and/or CTRS) up to $34.00/hour to start.

Primary Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Responsibilities :
To ensure the provision of a comprehensive program of leisure services. To facilitate the acquisition of leisure time skills in order to meet physical, emotional, intellectual needs of residents in accordance with their needs, interests and abilities. To provide individual intervention, group activities, counseling, education and enjoyable experiences at Andrew Residence and in the community that facilitate the purposeful, satisfying and responsible use of leisure time for residents. To help residents increase independence and awareness of leisure resources and barriers. To participate in the provision of a comprehensive program of services, including providing floor coverage, interacting with residents in both individual and group settings with an emphasis on the milieu to facilitate the resident's acquisition of independent living skills. To assess residents' mental health status daily and communicate their status to treatment teams, intervening in emergency and non-crisis situations as needed. To provide individual program management as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or affiliated disciplines Proficiency with computer software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, EHR) Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary team framework Effective communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Active Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Valid Driver's License Master's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or affiliated disciplines Experience working with resident populations Mental health experience Knowledge of mental illness and needs of the population
